Not only was 4th of July a big celebration, but we had our 4th wedding anniversary. I can't believe its been 4 years already! Time flies that's for sure and its only gotten faster since Kaelyn was born. I guess its because we stay so busy with little miss. She has grown up so much in the last month since we have been here! She is maturing in so many ways and she is such a little sponge. She soaks up everything I have been teaching her lately such as counting 1-10 and her ABCs.
For our anniversary we decided to go back to Newport beach where we went last year in California. We are pretty excited that we are only 4 1/2 hours away from the beach and we can just got away for a couple of days for our anniversary!
The beach is definitely one of my favorite places to be! So relaxing and I think Kaelyn really enjoyed it more this year than last. We got there early morning Friday, left the apartment about 6 am and got to the beach around 10:30am. The traveling was pretty smooth and Kaelyn did fantastic for a 4 1/2 hour drive. Though we did stop for some breakfast in Barstow, California about 2 1/2 hours away from here to stretch our legs as well. Once we got to Newport we went straight to Seaside Donuts our absolute favorite. We got 2 dozen donut holes for a snack. Another thing we like about the shop is that its so cheap, only .10 cents for each donut hole. Then we hit the beach for the afternoon! It was pretty much over casted for the day but the weather was absolutely perfect! Not too hot or cold!
If you ever go to Newport and you are hungry for breakfast you have to go there. We even went there for lunch our second day and got hot ham and cheese croissants. Served fresh and hot!
After a few hours at the beach we got a hotel to go clean up from the sand, rest and get ready for dinner. My really good friend(Alyson) told us about Ruby's Diner that we needed to try. It's basically a really good burger joint with fries and milkshakes. Almost like a Steak N Shake but 10 times better!
Just look at this yummy BBQ, bacon cheeseburger the hubbs got!
After we got done with dinner we took a stroll around a lake area in a random neighborhood. It was gorgeous and very dreamy. California seems like the life to live. It's gorgeous there and pretty much has the perfect weather all the time. Though I would love to live there it's expensive and I hate the traffic. Pretty crazy drivers although you see those ppl all the time here as well!
The next day we checked out of the hotel at noon and headed back to the beach one more time! Though we had to take one pit stop to Balboa Island which is basically 5 miles from Newport. It's a very old town, quiet but so many site seers this time of the year(something we learned this year b/c we went last year in May and no one was at Balboa). Basically a rich retired old folk town which I did tell Tim that's where I want to retire when we are old...hehe! It took us forever to find a parking spot but we finally found one and had to walk about 2 blocks down to go to this place called Balboa Candy. They have the best taffy ever!!
After we got our wonderful taffy and a sucker for Kaelyn we went back to Newport and enjoyed the last 3 hours there. Here are a few pictures of Kaelyn on the beach!
Kaelyn absolutely loved the ocean. I couldn't keep her out of the waves! They even knocked her down a few times and she got right back up and was ready to run in them again! It's been an entire week since we have been back from the beach and she still asks me to go at least once a day! Wish we were closer than 4 1/2 hours because I definitely would.
Before we left California we had to stop at Chick Fil A and get our fix in before coming back home. We had such a great time and I hope we get to see the beach a few more times since we are so close!
